This Weekend | Gran Feria de Julio Begins
Weekend Digest Thursday, 2 July to Sunday 5 July
Buen finde! July is here, and with it the Gran Feria de València — a full month of events, fireworks, and the fairground in the Turia that defines Valencia’s summer. This weekend also brings the Gay Games closing ceremony on Saturday, the International Jazz Festival gets properly underway at Palau de la Música, and outdoor cinema spreads across the city. A lot starts this week and runs all month — worth reading to the end.
Festivals & Holidays
July in Valencia means the Gran Feria de Julio, and this year’s programme runs every day of the month with events citywide alongside the fairground rides and games in the Turia. The highlights to mark in your diary: the Gran Nit de Juliol on 18 July brings free concerts across the city and fireworks at Puente de Serranos, and the grand finale on 26 July is the Batalla de las Flores — falleras in traditional dress atop horse-drawn floats on the Paseo de la Alameda, batting back carnations thrown by the crowd. The festival’s own website has a handy calendar with the full programme. Most events are free; no booking required.

Outdoor cinema opens across the city this month. La Rambleta and La Nau are both screening classic films throughout July — directors including Woody Allen and Stanley Kubrick among others. Separately, the CTAV architecture school is running a programme of screenings and talks around films that use cities and urban landscapes as their central subject. All screenings are free but require a reservation; check each venue’s website for schedules.
