Beach promenade lined with palm trees along Valnecia's Cabanyal neighborhood

Valencia Weekend April 16-19 | Croquettes, Sant Jordi, Live Music & More

Buen finde! Cabanyal is buzzing this Valencia weekend, with street food, book fairs, and a full calendar of events along the seafront. On Sunday, the Ironman takes over the waterfront, with the finish line at Les Arts. So expect some crowds and traffic diversions. Still, not a bad excuse to head to the beach.

If you’d rather stay closer to the Turia, there’s plenty across the city. Dansa Valencia continues at iconic venues, and there’s no shortage of live music — from the all-female Dona Festival at Parc Central to intimate gigs in some of Valencia’s best small venues.

Looking ahead, the Feria Andaluza arrives next week, bringing a taste of Sevilla to the Turia fairground

At the Beach This Weekend

Cabanyal is easing into summer with multiple events along the seafront

Kroqueta Fest – Some of the city’s most popular restaurants compete for the title of best croquette, with live music and street food along the beach esplanade. Free entry. Croquetas can also be reserved in advance online.

Medieval Market – A medieval fair sets up on the same stretch of esplanade — music, arts and crafts, and artisanal food. A festive double bill with the Kroqueta Fest next door.

Sant Jordi at La Batisfera – The festival of books and roses at Cabanyal’s beloved bookstore — with special offers and a literary atmosphere. One of the few English-language bookshops in the city. Sant Jordi falls on 23 April but the celebrations run across the week.

If you’re in the area, it’s also a good moment to dip into some of Cabanyal’s intimate music venues. Burning House – Argentinian artist Belén Natalí brings Jamaican-infused rhythms to Burning House this weekend. La Xarranta has jazz all weekend, from clarinetist Betsy Iglesias to the bass and piano duo of Javier Colina & Albert Sanz. La Fabrica de Hielo always has a good vibe, from electronica sets to soul and jazz.

Live Music

Dona Festival, Spain’s only all-female music concert lineup returns to Parc Central with open-air pop and electronic music. Originally scheduled for International Women’s Day, the concert was rescheduled because of rain. Saturday.

Centro Excursionista Bar – Folk-rock and jazz this weekend, with Johnny Irion + This Frontier Needs Heroes and the Lizzy Lee Quartet.

16 Toneladas offers a weekend of psychedelic rock from Brooklyn group GIFT (debut album Momentary Presence) and blues-rock from CM Wolf & the Backbones.

Alejandro & María Laura — Peruvian acoustic duo perform as part of IVAM’s free concert series Posar la Veu. Saturday.

Plena 79 Salsa Orchestra – Latin Grammy-nominated salsa band Plena 79 launches a new monthly social dance series with live music at the iconic La Rambleta. First night: Saturday 18 April. Come with your dancing shoes.

Classical & Jazz

Palau de la Música – Three events this weekend: Cuarteto Casals string quartet, a live-scored screening of Alice in Wonderland, and a concert performance of the opera Il Giustino.

Victor de Diego Organic Quartet — Part of Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar spring concert cycle this Thursday evening.

Theatre & Performance

Dansa Valencia – Valencia’s annual dance festival (11–19 April) continues this weekend with performances at some of the city’s most loved cultural spaces and public plazas. Full programme at the link.

Three Spanish-language theatre productions this weekend worth noting — particularly for advanced learners or those comfortable following along:

Blaubeeren — La Rambleta – Award-winning play based on a real photo album depicting SS officers at a seemingly idyllic picnic near Auschwitz. A powerful piece of theatre exploring how ordinary people participated in the Holocaust. In Spanish.

Blackface y Otras Vergüenzas — La Nau – Sylvia Albert Sopale performs her one-woman show on African identity in Spain. In Spanish.

Mamma Mia — Teatro Olympia – The ABBA musical in Spanish — a fun way to spend an evening, and a surprisingly effective language learning experience for those who know the songs.

Gardens & Parks

Botanical Garden Open Day – Free entry and guided tours of the Jardí Botànic this weekend, in Spanish and Valencian. Advance registration required for the tours.

Looking Ahead — Next Week

Feria Andaluza — Turia Fairground – Valencia’s homage to Sevilla’s Feria de Abril transforms the Turia fairground into a showcase of flamenco, sherry, and Andalusian culture.

Festín Valencia — 17–26 April – Valencia’s festival of food and art pairs gastronomic events with iconic cultural spaces across the city. Book early — spaces fill quickly.
