Friday, January 17

Festivals and Cultural Events

  • Festival of Sant Antoni de Abad – Celebrate the patron saint of animals! Scores of animals and their owners will line up to be blessed after a morning mass. For more details, see our recent post on this popular tradition.

Music and Arts

  • Valencia Orchestra at Palau de la Música – Featuring Manuel Blanco on trumpet, performing works by Verdi, Hummel, and Beethoven.

  • Carmen Center for Contemporary Culture – Filippo Mazzoli (traverso flute) and Denis Zardi (piano) commemorate the music of Ravel. Free admission.

  • Kassandra at Teatre Micalet – A play by Sergio Blanco reimagining Cassandra as an immigrant sex worker with the gift of prophecy. Performed in broken English. Premieres January 17 and runs until January 26.

  • La Máquina Teatro
    Musical production of Doña Rosita based on Lorca’s works, set to the music of Raffaella Carrà. Runs until February 2. Details here
  • Museum of Fine Arts
    Exhibition of works by painter Rosario de Velasco, closing in February. More info
  • Las Naves
    Explore one of the world’s largest experimental music collections, Supersonic, before it closes on January 30. Details here
  • L’Etno Museum
    Photo exhibition Lives Undermined by Gervasio Sánchez, featuring stories of victims of landmines. Runs until February 16. More info
