Valencia Weekend Events: 12 – 15 Dec 2024

The holiday season is in full swing, and Valencia has a packed weekend of events to enjoy. Many of these activities were delayed due to the recent floods and are now making their long-awaited return. Here’s a roundup of highlights to add to your calendar:

Christmas Markets

Valencia’s holiday markets are up! (Check out this post for a regularly updated list.) This weekend also features unique pop-up markets with limited opening dates—perfect for last-minute gift shopping.

Market Solidario
The Creative House is hosting vendors from flood affected areas at their Ruzafa showroom. Wine, gourmet foods, silk and textile handicrafts are among the products available at this market. The sportswear brand North Sails x Hannover has also donated garments for sale and 100% of those proceeds will go to flood victims.

Regalos con Corazón
Hosted by Naid Studio and designer Isabel Sanchis, this event combines gift shopping with giving back. Proceeds from the market will help Caritas Picanya purchase gifts for children affected by the floods. Vendors from flood-hit areas will also be selling their goods. Visitors are encouraged to bring a new children’s gift for donation.

Cocin4s Christmas Market
El Carmen’s street art collective Cocin4s is hosting a special market featuring original prints by popular muralists like Disneylexya and David De Limón.

Big Bang Books
Discover a treasure trove of illustrated and graphic books from Valencia’s independent publishers at this fair. A must-visit for book lovers!

Solidarity Through Art

Valencia’s contemporary art galleries are teaming up for a special charity exhibition called Totes a Una per València to support flood recovery efforts. Participating venues include Shiras Art Gallery, SET espai d’art, and Jorge Lopez Gallery, with proceeds going to AVVAC, the local visual artists’ association.

Postales Por La Dana is an art event to raise funds for Valencia Acoge, a charity helping the most vulnerable victims of the flood disaster. Artists have submitted original designs in postcard size and will be exhibited and available for sale at three different galleries. Find out more here.

Bundle up and head to Jardín de Viveros for an evening of stargazing. The Astronomer’s Association of Valencia will provide high-powered telescopes for an unforgettable night under the stars.

Marathon Day! ?????

Sunday, December 1
The big event this weekend is the Valencia Marathon, which will bring thousands of runners to the streets. Expect road closures throughout the city. Click here for the full course map.

This year, the marathon holds extra significance as Valencia continues its flood recovery efforts. Some of the proceeds will go to charity.

  • Mini Marathon for Kids, Saturday, November 30 – This fun event for younger participants is part of the marathon’s side activities. Learn more here.

Cultural Tours and Events

Solidarity Tours for Flood Recovery
Valencia’s Official Tour Guides are offering special charity tours to help a school in Benetússer to replace materials damaged by the flood. Tours cost €10 per person, with all proceeds going to the cause.

Valencian Dance – Balls al Carrer – Sunday, December 1
Select Fallas groups will be performing Valencian traditional dance as part of the Balls al Carrer. This weekend it will be at Plaza de la Ciudad de Brujas by Mercado Central from 10:30 – 13:30. It’s free to attend and a great way to experience Valencian culture, traditional dress and music. Details here.

Valencia Cuina Oberta – Open Kitchen ?
Food lovers, rejoice! This annual event offers set menus at reduced prices at some of Valencia’s best known establishments, from Michelin-starred kitchens to beloved local restaurants. There are also a variety of food experiences to choose, from mixing cocktails to tasting horchata. But it only lasts until December 1. Don’t miss your chance to savor Valencia’s best cuisine. Mozart’s Requiem – Charity Concert – Wednesday, December 4
Valencia Cathedral will host a special performance of Mozart’s Requiem to raise funds for flood recovery. A spectacular setting for this powerful memorial performance. Tickets and donations are available online. Reserve here.


Film

Open-Air Screenings at CCCC ?
The Carmen Contemporary Culture Center is hosting a series of free film screenings. On Friday, December 6, there will be a double feature of All That Heaven Allows and Far From Heaven. More info here.

Filmoteca Series – Westerns & Yasujiro Ozu ?
Filmoteca continues its Western series this weekend, showing classics like 3:10 to Yuma, Meek’s Cutoff, and The Grapes of Wrath. They’re also screening films by Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu (with Spanish subtitles). Schedule here.
