Getting Around Valencia: Transport Cards, Passes and Valenbisi

The short answer: Valencia’s city buses (EMT) and its metro and tram (Metrovalencia) share integrated tickets loaded onto a rechargeable Móbilis card. Most passes need the €2 plastic card, and discounted fares need it personalised. Under-14s registered in the city ride EMT free with an EMT Infantil card, and under-30s pay €12.50 a month for unlimited buses. Today’s prices depend on temporary subsidies, so check before you budget.

Key facts

  • EMT runs the city buses; Metrovalencia (FGV) runs the metro and tram across the metro area.
  • Integrated tickets work across EMT, Metrovalencia, Metrobús and Renfe Cercanías within their zone, including transfers.
  • The city confirmed discounted EMT fares for the first half of 2026: the Bonobús (10 trips) at €5.10 instead of €8.50, EMT Jove at €12.50 a month, and EMT Infantil free. (Ayuntamiento de València)
  • The Generalitat has extended its fare reductions on Metrovalencia and metropolitan tickets to 31 December 2026. (El Periòdic)
  • Children under 6 ride EMT free with a paying adult, and under-10s ride Metrovalencia free, up to two children per adult.
  • The Móbilis card costs €1 (cardboard), €2 (plastic) or €4 (personalised plastic).
  • Valenbisi, the bike share, costs roughly €26–29 a year, with the first 30 minutes of each trip free.

Valencia is flat, compact and easy to get around without a car. The system itself works well. What trips people up is the cards: which one you need, which discounts you qualify for, and why the price you paid last month might not be the price next month.

Travelling with children

The EMT Infantil card gives under-14s unlimited free bus travel, but your child needs to have been on Valencia’s padrón for at least six months, and you apply in person at an EMT office. For the metro and tram, the Móbilis30 card is applied for online. Our guide to kids and public transport walks through both.

Valenbisi

Sign up in the app or on the Valenbisi website. A refundable deposit of up to €150 is authorised on your card, and only charged if you break the rules, such as losing a bike or repeatedly going over the time limit. Discounts apply for over-55s and some other groups.

FAQ

How do I buy a bus pass in Valencia?

Buy a plastic Móbilis card at an estanco, kiosk, metro station or EMT office, then load a Bonobús or monthly pass online, in the app or at a machine.

How much is a monthly bus pass in Valencia?

EMT Jove costs €12.50 for 30 days of unlimited travel if you’re under 30. For everyone else, the 10-trip Bonobús at €5.10 or a SUMA monthly pass are the usual options.

Why might fares go up?

The EMT discounts depend on funding the city has been covering itself, after a dispute with the national government over Valencia’s Low Emission Zone. If that changes, prices could rise.

Get a personalised card early, especially if anyone in your household qualifies for a discount, and check the fares page before you top up for the month. Then try the bike lanes. With the Turia gardens running right through the city, you may find you hardly miss the car.
