What’s On This Weekend: Fireworks at Mercat del Porrat
Buen Finde! 2026 is off to a chilly start, but that hasn’t slowed down Valencia’s weekend agenda.
Festivals and Traditions
Valencia’s fallas commissions continue their traditional dance series, Balls al Carrer, with public performances this Saturday morning in Plaza de la Reina.
The Mercat del Porrat on Calle Sagunto opens Friday, 9 January, in honor of San Antonio Abad, the patron saint of animals. Fireworks are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday nights at 9 pm.
Looking ahead:
17 January – Festival of Sant Antoni, celebrating the patron saint of animals. Arrive early if you want a good view of the traditional blessing of pets and service animals.
Arts & Theatre
This month, the Filmoteca is featuring films by French director Maurice Pialat and Japanese filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa. All screenings are in their original language with Spanish subtitles.
La Plazeta Teatro hosts an immersive, sing-along screening of Mamma Mia on Saturday, 10 January. Expect ABBA classics and audience participation.
Double Feature is the new exhibition at the Chirivella Soriano Foundation in El Carmen, pairing works by contemporary Spanish painters Chema López and Santiago Ydáñez. On view until March.
15 January – Club Hemingway returns to Radio City in El Carmen. The English-language literary open mic is back for the new year.
17 January – English Theatre in Valencia hosts a reading of Hemingway’s short story Hills Like White Elephants at Bruno’s Lucky 13. Limited spaces—booking recommended.
Music
La Vitti continues its Tiny Stage series every Thursday. This week features jazz crooner Kiumars Vahedi alongside the V-Side Collective.
Anna Curra, Spain’s queen of 80s punk, performs at 16 Toneladas on Thursday, 8 January.
On Friday, 9 January, Burning House in Cabanyal hosts Brasilidades, an exploration of Afro-Brazilian music with Rafinha Barros and Caboclo.
Jardí Electronic kicks off 2026 with a triple DJ lineup at Parc Malilla on Saturday, 10 January

15 January – Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar welcomes renowned Cuban trumpeter Carlos Sarduy and his trio.
16 January – Mayte Martín, the Barcelona-born flamenco singer, performs at Fundación Bancaja.
Sports
This Sunday, the Ibercaja 5K and 10K races will run from the City of Arts and Sciences through the Turia Gardens to Mestalla and Avenida Blasco Ibáñez. Expect road closures along the route starting Saturday night.
Valencia Basket faces off with Monaco in a Euro League game at the Roig Arena this Thursday, 8 January.
In football, Valencia FC plays Elche on Saturday at Mestalla and Levante UD plays RCD Espanyol on Sunday at Ciutat de València.
