Visca Valencia! A special edition of the weekend highlights as the city marks its birthday. October 9 commemorates the day King Jaime I entered Valencia in 1238 and founded the Kingdom of Valencia. Every year, the city celebrates with fireworks, parades, and music. This year, rain is in the forecast, so keep an eye out for possible last-minute changes. Here’s what’s planned:
Light Spectacle and Fireworks
On October 8 at 11 PM, more than 200 drones will light up the sky above the City of Arts and Sciences in an aerial acrobatics show. At midnight, fireworks will follow, launched from the Monteolivete Bridge nearby.
Civic Procession and Parade
The official procession begins at noon on October 9 from Plaza del Ayuntamiento, with a floral offering at the Cathedral before heading to Plaza de Alfonso el Magnánimo and returning to the square for a mascletà. At 5 PM, the historic Moors and Christians parade takes over the city center, with elaborate costumes, dance, and music bringing medieval traditions to life.
Free Valencia Orchestra Concert
The celebrations end with a free concert at Les Arts by the Valencia Orchestra. Tickets will be released on October 8 at 10 AM via the Palau de la Música website here.
