What’s On This Weekend: Three Kings & the Final Days of Christmas

Valencia is still deep in the holiday spirit! With Christmas and New Year’s behind us, we’re now into the final stretch of the festive season before Los Reyes (Three Kings Day) on Tuesday, 6 January, a national public holiday when shops and offices close for family celebrations.

Weather
Dress warmly if you’re planning to be outside this weekend. AEMET forecasts cold temperatures around or near freezing at night and possible rain over the weekend.

Three Kings Parade – Monday 5 January

The highlight of the holiday season in Valencia, the Cabalgata de Reyes Magos (Three Kings Parade) is magical for kids and families. The Three Kings arrive by boat at the Marina before winding through the city centre to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, handing out sweets and accompanied by entertainers. For more of the traditions — and the all-important sweets — behind this holiday, see Mireille’s post Thinking of Reyes.

Key parade details:
• 16:30 – Arrival at the Marina by boat.
• 17:30 – Parade starts from Paseo de la Alameda toward Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

Expect street closures along the route in the late afternoon. You can find more details on the Ayuntamiento de Valencia’s Agenda.

Shopping & Markets
If you still have holiday shopping to do, many Christmas markets, circuses, and fairs are open through Sunday, 4 January.

Music

Valencia’s Christmas concert series continues with free performances in plazas across the city. Plaza del Patriarca features daily choir and dance performances at 18:00 and 19:00 until Sunday, 4 January.

Incantus, the all-female choir, will sing at Sant Tomás de Villanueva church in La Xerea on Sunday, 4 January. It’s free until capacity is reached.

For something beyond carols, Burning House has a jazz and reggae in its lineup. On Sunday, 4 January, New York–based guitarist Isaac Romagosa performs originals from his album Fast Forward. Then on Monday, 5 January, all-female reggae band, Amazonians, will play a Night of Queens concert.

Art & Exhibitions

IVAM, Valencia’s contemporary art museum, is showing major exhibitions — including Kara Walker’s Burning Village and Cristina García Rodero’s Hidden Spain photography — both running into February.

Theatre & Performance

Valencia’s Festival of Magic runs through Sunday, 4 January at Teatro La Plazeta, featuring world-class magicians from Korea, China, England, and Spain.

For a fun and local break from the holiday spirit, English-language stand-up comedy is on at La Vitti on Friday, 2 January.

Kids & Family

ExpoJove, the annual kids’ and youth festival at Feria Valencia, is in its final days this weekend with shows, workshops, games, and activities for younger audiences.

That’s all for this weekend’s highlights! I’ll be filling in the calendar with more events in the week ahead and the regular news update on Monday. Have a lovely New Year’s weekend in Valencia!
