Week in News: Mazón’s Moment of Reckoning

Bon dia! Storm clouds are on the horizon — literally and politically. Aemet forecasts possible rain and a drop in temperatures this week. Meanwhile, it could be the end of Carlos Mazón at the Generalitat.

DANA State Funeral & Political Backlash

A year after the deadly DANA floods, families and dignitaries attended a state funeral for the victims on October 29. The solemn ceremony, attended by regional and national leaders, was captured in this photo gallery from Valencia Plaza.

Tensions rose when Mazón was heckled during the funeral, with some families shouting “asesino” (“murderer”), as shown in this video from Las Provincias.

At the same time, more than a thousand protesters marched to El Ventorro, the restaurant where Mazón had dined that fateful day while emergency calls went unanswered, reports El País.

Now, Mazón’s Partido Popular is reportedly discussing whether he should finally resign, and a press conference has been called for Monday, as Valencia Plaza explains. Meanwhile, protesters have gathered outside the Palau de la Generalitat, awaiting word on his political fate, reports Las Provincias.
