What’s On This Weekend: Halloween & Veggie Tapas

Buen Finde! After a light rain, sunshine is back this weekend. From Halloween fun to veggie tapas trails and free jazz concerts — here’s what’s on around the city.

Note: Saturday, November 1, is All Saints’ Day — most shops and stores will be closed. Stock up on some of Valencia’s traditional marzipan holiday sweets, huesos de santos.

Halloween Fun

Valencia’s spooky season is in full swing. There are a few kids’ events, but many around the city are designed for older kids or adults — so check before you go.

Ruzafa Trick or Treat — This beloved event is quickly becoming a Valencia institution. If you plan to bring your kids, please contribute candy or cash — it’s entirely volunteer-run by parents.

Halloween Market at Mercado del Grao — Costume competitions, crafts, and music at this lively local pop-up.

Halloween at El Garaje Foodie — This burger and street food roundup goes all out with Halloween décor and hosts a spooky show at 10 p.m. nightly — scary fun for older kids and adults.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show at La Rambleta — Dig out the fishnets and sing along at this cult classic screening with live audience participation.

Circus Cabaret at Espai de Circ — A mix of acrobatics, burlesque, and Halloween flair in this special cabaret edition.


Festivals

Traditional Dancing at Plaza de la Reina — The Balls al Carrer series continues on Saturday, November 2, celebrating Valencian folk dance in the heart of the old city.

Pumpkin Festival at Benimàmet — Not exactly Halloween, but plenty of pumpkin fun and decorating at this neighborhood festival. Expect sweet roasted calabaza and lots of family-friendly activities.


Food & Markets

Veggie Vuelta (1–9 November) — The annual celebration of vegetarian tapas returns, with a tasting route across the city’s participating restaurants.

Cuina Oberta — Valencia’s restaurant festival returns soon! This seasonal event opens the kitchens of the city’s best restaurants with special menus — including Michelin-star venues. Mark your calendars: bookings open 10 November.


Art & Cinema

“Un año de la DANA” Photo Exhibition — Powerful photojournalism documenting last year’s floods, hosted by the Spanish Press Federation and the Valencian Union of Journalists.

World Press Photo — Last chance to catch this renowned exhibition of prize-winning international photography; it closes Sunday, November 2.

Cos d’aigua at Fundación Bancaja — This contemporary exhibition by Alicante artist Juan Carlos Nadal is also coming to a close. Many of his works were restored after his studio was flooded in last year’s DANA.

Fiesta del Cine — The national cinema festival returns, offering discounted tickets across participating theatres.


Live Music

Valencian Hymn at Les Arts — A free concert on Sunday at noon at the City of Arts and Sciences esplanade. Hundreds of musicians will perform Valencia’s most emblematic songs under the baton of conductor Jerónimo Castelló.

Boulez & Couperin at Fundación Cañada Blanch — A free Sunday evening chamber concert exploring echoes of the baroque.

Jardi Electronic at Parc CentralThe open-air electronic music festival returns on Saturday, this time at the Muelle de Malilla. Tickets are €5.

UPV Jazz Festival — All next week (3–7 November), Valencia’s Polytechnic University opens its halls to music lovers with a free concert series featuring exceptional local jazz talent.


Sports & Games

Several home games this weekend: Valencia Basket at Roig Arena, and Levante vs. Celta de Vigo on Sunday at Ciutat de València Stadium.

Formula E Pre-Season Testing — Free entry at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit to watch the electric cars in action. (And for later this month…) MotoGP Grand Prix takes place on November 14. See website for tickets.

Windsurfer Festival at Valencia Mar — Colorful sails and sea breezes at this lively weekend regatta at Valencia’s marina.
