Week in News: Rising Temperatures, Flood Memorial Plans, and a New Fallera Court

Bon dia! Here’s a look at what’s been happening in and around Valencia — and what’s ahead. Weekend Highlights will be out on Thursday.

Weather and Climate

Aemet is predicting a surge in temperatures across the Valencia region this week, with a chance of rain returning by next weekend. Rising sea temperatures have increased the number of DANA storms hitting the Valencian coast, changing what used to be a predictable autumn season, Las Provincias reports.

As an example, the recent Storm Alice brought a dramatic lightning display, with more than 4,000 bolts recorded across the region in a single day, according to Las Provincias

The increased rainfall has been a welcome change for some: mushroom foragers are enjoying an unusually abundant season, with experts predicting a record harvest.

Questions over Valencia’s flood resilience
A year after the devastating DANA floods, experts and residents are questioning whether urban planning has truly adapted to prevent future disasters. While some improvements have been made, “zona cero” neighborhoods still face major challenges, explains Valencia Plaza.  Furthermore, reconstruction efforts have exacerbated Valencia’s labor shortage, according to Valencia Plaza, with an estimated 10,000 construction workers needed to meet post-flood demand.

Ongoing struggles for flood victims
