Valencia Design Fest
The Museum of Illustrative Arts (MuVIM) kicks off the Valencia Design Festival this weekend. Following the opening of its Tiempo + Materia exhibition on Friday, 12 September, the museum courtyard will host a lively inauguration with drinks and music from DJ Gaspar Antuña. Starts at 7:30 pm. Free entry until full capacity is reached.
Antiques & Vintage Markets
Treasure hunters, don’t miss these Valencia markets:
- The seasonal Antiques Market returns to Mercado de Tapinera in its historic plaza this weekend.
- On Sunday, 14 September, the Mercado de la Valvanera in the Jesús neighborhood is back with its unbeatable deal: every item for 1 euro. Entry is also 1 euro — bring a tote bag for your finds.
Oktoberfest & Pizza Combat
Munich’s Paulaner Brewery brings Oktoberfest to Valencia from 12–28 September, with Bavarian-style beer halls set up by the Marina Real metro stop. Free entry: 6 pm–1 am on weekdays, noon–1 am on weekends.
Next door, Pizza Combat is firing up the ovens — Valencia’s best pizzerias compete for the trophy, and diners vote for their favorite slice. Also free to enter, running 12–28 September.
Hemingway Tours & Free Book Club
The Hemingway Routes continue this weekend at Malvarrosa beach. These free guided tours trace the footsteps of Ernest Hemingway in Valencia. An English-language tour still has space on Saturday, 13 September. To reserve, email: inscripcionturismo@valencia.es.
Also in Malvarrosa: El Club de los Libros Libres, a unique bookstore where members pay 11 euros a year to borrow unlimited books (mainly in Spanish). For English-language books and cultural events in Cabanyal, visit La Batisfera – a cozy bookstore and cafe made for literature lovers.
Free Music in Valencia: Lago de Conciertos & Afrojazz
The Berklee College of Music continues its free Lago de Conciertos series this Friday, 12 September, at 7 pm by the waters at Les Arts. Expect jazz, R&B, soul, pop, and Latin performances from Berklee’s talented student musicians.
Coming up: on Tuesday, 18 September, Congolese-Spanish artist Doudou Nganga presents his new album at the SGAE Foundation in El Carmen with a free preview concert at 5:30 pm.
Coming Soon in Valencia
- Abierto Valencia (26 Sept–3 Oct): TuriaArt and the Ayuntamiento are offering free guided art walks in English and Spanish through contemporary galleries, as part of the Abierto Valencia festival. Reservations required.
- World Car Free Day (22 Sept): Valencia joins the global event with free public transportation across the city.
